Summer Longing
Book Review - Summer Longing by Jamie Brenner
I read and reviewed Drawing Home by Jamie Brenner last year, quickly becoming a fan of her summer novels set in idyllic beach towns. I’m basically making a list of summer vacation spots based on the books I read by her. So whether you are stuck at home under a shelter-in-place order in the midst of a worldwide pandemic or lounging on a beach with a frozen cocktail in hand during your annual family vacation, Jamie Brenner books will offer the escape and feel-good reading you’re looking for.
Summer Longing is about Ruth Cooperman, a successful business woman and divorced mother who just sold the company she built from the ground up for a pretty penny and moved to Provincetown to figure out what is next for her. The perfect summer house rental is proving to be less than perfect when a baby is left on her doorstep and her landlords move back into the house with her. On top of that, her strained relationship with her daughter comes to a head when she misleads her daughter to get her to visit.
I think we are all longing for the summers of years past, especially as we face an unknown end to COVID-19. We can all relate to Ruth in that way. I don’t know what this summer will look like in terms of vacations and getaways, but Summer Longing will (if only temporarily) make you feel like you’re in Provincetown getting to know the locals. Best if read with a cup of tea (you’ll see why…)
