How to Save a Life
Book Review - How to Save a Life by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke
I first heard about Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke when I featured their book The Two Lila Bennetts. I was taken by the multiverse plotline which I’ve come to adore through reading Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. Another plotline I love is the time loop idea (think Groundhog’s Day, Russian Doll, and Palm Springs)…which brings me to How to Save a Life.
How to Save a Life is about Dom and Mia who reconnect a decade after they broke off their engagement. Mia is the one that got away and Dom is on a mission to get her back. But on their first date together since reuniting, Dom is severely injured and Mia dies in a horrific carnival accident. Dom is heartbroken until the next morning he discovers that the day reset giving him the opportunity to try to save her life…over and over again.
Anyone who is a fan of the time loop plotline knows there is always something that gets the characters out and back on the normal track of their lives. What I loved about How to Save a Life is that I didn’t predict what would get Dom out of the loop until very near the end. It had a nice twist and solid ending that would leave any romantic and realist happy.
