Parting the Veil

Book Feature - Parting the Veil by Paulette Kennedy

HBL Note: I connected with Paulette back in May and she’s quickly become one of my favorite authors to follow on Instagram. She is the BEST at giving her fellow authors shout-outs and support while also letting her readers know about her own debut novel, PARTING THE VEIL. You all know how much I love finding debut authors, and Paulette Kennedy is one of my favorite finds recently. She describes herself on IG as a gothic lover, Cottagecore Witch, and Haunted House Maven - I can’t imagine a better author (and book) to feature this time of year!

It is no secret that I am a fan of historical fiction. But you may not know that one of my favorite things to do is go on house tours and visit historic house museums. Really, I’m a fan of anything that gets me inside someone else’s home (in a not creepy way) such as estate sales, home features in magazines, house parties, you name it. I can just feel the history, the stories, within the walls. In PARTING THE VEIL, the house Eliza inherits has secrets that may be better left undiscovered. Scroll down to read more.

Book Feature - Parting the Veil by Paulette Kennedy

From the publisher:

When Eliza Sullivan inherits an estate from a recently deceased aunt, she leaves behind a grievous and guilt-ridden past in New Orleans for rural England and a fresh start. Eliza arrives at her new home and finds herself falling for the mysterious lord of Havenwood, Malcolm Winfield. Despite the sinister rumors that surround him, Eliza is drawn to his melancholy charm and his crumbling, once-beautiful mansion. With enough love, she thinks, both man and manor could be repaired.

Not long into their marriage, Eliza fears that she should have listened to the locals. There’s something terribly wrong at Havenwood Manor: Forbidden rooms. Ghostly whispers in the shadows. Strangely guarded servants. And Malcolm’s threatening moods, as changeable as night and day.

As Eliza delves deeper into Malcolm’s troubling history, the dark secrets she unearths gain a frightening power. Has she married a man or a monster? For Eliza, uncovering the truth will either save her or destroy her.
