Ladies of the House
Book Feature - Ladies of the House by Lauren Edmondson
HBL Note: Calling all Jane Austen fans! Lauren Edmondson’s debut novel, LADIES OF THE HOUSE, is a retelling of the beloved classic, SENSE AND SENSIBILITY. I’m such a fan of modern retellings of classic stories. You might remember my review several years ago of Curtis Sittenfeld’s Eligible. If you enjoyed that book as much as I did, I think you will also adore Ladies of the House. Plus, you know how much I cherish the opportunity to support debut authors! This is Lauren’s first novel (of what I’m sure will be many,) so scroll down to read more about it.
From the publisher:
No Surprise is a good surprise. At least, according to Daisy Richardson, a woman of routine, order, and careful thought. And the most unwelcome surprise is a scandalous article about her prominent Senator father breaking at his funeral. With this urgent news, Lauren Edmonson launches into her observant debut novel, LADIES OF THE HOUSE.
A contemporary Sense & Sensibility retelling set in the heart of Georgetown, LADIES OF THE HOUSE follows the Richardson family as they are thrown into complications. For one, they must sell their home they can no longer afford while Daisy’s mother clings to as the final remnant of their high-society life. Her younger sister, Wallis, is ready to move on to bigger and better things only to fall for the most inconvenient person possible, and someone Daisey cannot trust. And then there’s Atlas, Daisy’s best friend whom she’s always wanted something more with and is writing an exposé on her father.
