Darling at the Campsite
Book Feature - Darling at the Campsite by Andy Abramowitz
HBL Note: The publicist who brought DARLING AT THE CAMPSITE to my attention said this, “My favorite way to describe Andy Abramowitz's new novel: If Nick Hornby's High Fidelity and Cameron Crowe's film Elizabethtown had a babe who loves the Talking Heads.” I mean, how can I not request more information after that introduction?
Do you ever feel nostalgic for your hometown? Your friends and your old haunts? If you didn’t sometimes daydream about those things, DARLING AT THE CAMPSITE will get you there. It is a heartbreaking and endearing novel with lots of 80s and 90s musical references that will leave you utterly charmed. Scroll down to read more.
From the publisher:
DARLING AT THE CAMPSITE by Andy Abramowitz (in which the Talking Heads are mentioned a glorious 20 times) is about Rowan Darling, an adrift thirty-something record store owner in Philadelphia who returns to his small Midwestern hometown for his brother’s funeral, and is forced to confront a host of demons that kept him away for fifteen years – including his ex-best friend who married his ex-girlfriend and together became the town “it” couple. Unfortunately, as Rowan’s “flash visit” spirals beyond his control, he must face everything he’s dodged for too long. The woman he can’t have. The memory of the brother he thought he knew. His own dwindling prospects back in Philadelphia. But Rowan also starts to see things more clearly—what’s worth fighting for, what he can let go of, how long he can keep running, and if maybe Maybee can be home again.
