Author Interview - Beverly Gray
In celebration of The Graduate turning 50 this December, I'm interview the author of Seduced by Mrs. Robinson: How "The Graduate" Became the Touchstone of a Generation. Click the link for my full review and more information about the book. Find out more about the personal lives of authors including their signature drink, favorite decade in fashion history, and the artists that inspire them in my author interview series.
Author I draw inspiration from: Prize-winning biographer and historian Stacy Schiff (Cleopatra: A Life, and The Witches, among others). A talented researcher and a gifted writer!
Favorite place to read a book: In the bathroom. (But don’t tell anybody!)
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Mr. Darcy. We’d probably have a lively time, and I’d love to know what he thinks about elevators.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: Birth? I can’t remember when I wasn’t mentally putting my life into words.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: I love hard-cover books (particularly those beautiful dust jackets), but paperbacks are much better for carrying around all over town.
The last book I read: I’m always reading, but the last book I finished is I Blame Dennis Hopper, a delightful memoir by Illeana Douglas.
Pen & paper or computer: I long ago made the switch to computer. So much easier to revise!
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Jo March. She was a writer too.
If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a: motion picture development exec or a professor of English. But hey! I have been both those things, and the life of an author is much better.
Favorite decade in fashion history: The slinky gowns of the 1930s.
Place I’d most like to travel: Angkor Wat, Cambodia.
My signature drink: A mojito. Or maybe a nice glass of buttermilk.
Favorite artist: Rembrandt, Renoir, David Hockney
Number one on my bucket list: Tap dance lessons.
Most looking forward to this holiday season: Sleep, family, movies
