Author of SIMPLY THE BEST

#1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Elizabeth Phillips returns with the next book in her Chicago Stars series where a successful sports agent and the sister of his biggest client engage in a take-no-prisoners battle of the sexes.
Take one hard-driving sports agent...
Throw in a failed chocolatier…
And her superstar football player brother…
Add a quirky pink and purple food truck.
Then, to really screw things up, mix in a very unfortunate murder.

All Chicago Stars books can be read as stand alones. No need to read in any order.

Author I draw inspiration from:

Please don't tell anyone, but I draw inspiration from bad books. Great books and great authors continue to intimidate me and, after all these years, still push me into imposter syndrome. I know. I need therapy.

Favorite place to read a book:

Kitchen counter while I'm eating something delicious.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:

Lady Tan in Lisa See's LADY TAN'S CIRCLE OF WOMEN. (What a great book!) I'd delve more into her medical practice and also try to talk her out of foot binding! (One look at my Size 9s, however, would undercut my arguments.)

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:

I wanted to be a movie star. This is my fallback career.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:

Hardback still feels like a "real book," something special, but it's heavy to hold when reading in bed. Paperback is so cozy and familiar, but sometimes the print runs into the book crease. I've become addicted to e-books and reading on my phone, something I never imagined myself doing, but I love how private it feels, and my phone is always nearby.

The last book I read:

ELON MUSK, by Walter Isaacson. I'm not a fan of people who treat others badly, no matter how wealthy, and I would never have read this book if several friends, whose opinion I respect, hadn't urged me on. An absolutely fascinating , infuriating, highly readable biography. I learned so much and highly recommend. Before that, I was privileged to receive an advanced copy of Kristin Hannah's newest, THE WOMEN. So good!!!!

Pen & paper or computer:

I write on a computer and brainstorm/plot on yellow pads. Using the yellow pad to think helps me corral my wandering thoughts.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:

Such an unfair question to ask a big reader! I'm going to settle on all the characters from MARY JANE, by Jessica Anya Blau. This is one of those gems of a book that deserve a much wider readership. It's billed as a coming of age novel, but it's a lot more. Set in the 70s, the 14 year old heroine from a conservative becomes a babysitter for a very different family, which includes a rock star.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:

I'm fascinated by graphic design, even though I don't have an artistic bone in my body.

Favorite decade in fashion history:

I loved the bright colors of the 60s.

Place I’d most like to travel:

I've been fortunate to travel widely, both European cities and hiking trips in Europe, Africa, Canada, and the Middle East. Right now, I'm looking at the Faroe Islands.

My signature drink:

Plain black Irish Breakfast Tea.

Favorite artist:

I'm an art museum junky, so my favorites are all over the place, from the 17th century Dutch painters, to the Impressionists, to both Modern and Contemporary Art. (Surrealism creeps me out.) I live in a family of musicians, so if I mention any favorites, I'd start a multi-generational war. That said, my son Zach Phillips' last two albums, The Wine of Youth and Goddaughters, are on my repeat list for sure.

Number one on my bucket list:

Filling in the holes in my travel experiences. (See aforementioned visit to the Faroe Islands.)

Anything else you'd like to add:

Life is too short to read depressing books! AND... Life goes better with happily-ever-after.
