Author Interview - Shanora Williams
Author of Beautiful Broken Love
From New York Times bestselling author Shanora Williams comes an emotional page-turner about two people still reeling from tragedy who look to each other for the strength to move forward.
It’s been months since her dreams of forever were brutally shattered. Seven long months since her husband and soulmate, Lew, died in her arms, leaving her to carry on. Alone. And Davina Klein-Roberts still isn’t sure how to move forward.
To escape her anguish, Davina throws everything into work, pushing Golden Oil Co., her self-built skin care line, to become a viral success. Now she’s poised to clinch a major endorsement deal too. But it’s bittersweet without Lew by her side.
A meeting with Deke Bishop, the hot NBA star she’s courting for her brand, leaves Davina flustered. With his dimpled smile and warm handshake, Deke’s a natural pitchman. And he’s clearly interested―not only in her lotions.
Davina soon discovers that Deke’s more than just another player and carries his own pain. But as her feelings for him grow, so does her guilt. Will the pain of a future already lost keep her from embracing hope for a new one?
Author I draw inspiration from:
Robinne Lee, Kennedy Ryan, Tia Williams, Danielle Allen, Ana Huang.
Favorite place to read a book:
A cozy corner on my sofa.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:
When I read my first romance book. I loved the way it made me feel inside. I was happy and rooting for the characters and thought to myself "I want to create this feeling."
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:
Definitely paperback.
Hardbacks are beautiful but they are my fingers as I read.
Ebooks come in handy, but I love the feel of paper and flipping the pages.
Audiobooks I am just now getting into this year so I don't mind the. I usually listen to them while driving or cleaning, but I prefer reading with my eyeballs.
The last book I read:
Pestilence by Laura Thalassa.
I thought it was a really good story and an interesting fictional take on the book of Revelations in the Bible. Incorporating romance into it was very unique.
Pen & paper or computer:
I'm a computer person, though I do use pen and paper to write notes or jot down quick scenes that won't escape my head. I'm a fast typer, so the words are easier to get down on a keyboard versus when I write by hand. Also, I have terrible handwriting and probably wouldn't know what half of the words I wrote are when reading over them.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with:
I think I'd be friends with my character Davina. I love that she is so strong and dedicated. I love that she's a CEO and created her company from scratch and turned it into a huge success. And I love that she is so aware of her emotions and feelings.
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:
Honestly, I'd probably be a stay at home mom. I know it's not a career, but I love taking care of people and giving. I love being home, and I'm already that extra mom who jazzes up movie nights by printing fake tickets and cash in exchange for snacks for my kids.
Favorite decade in fashion history:
It had to be the 90s. For sure. And I love that we're slowly incorporating some of that fashion into our current times.
Place I’d most like to travel:
I'd love to go to Hawaii. I've never been, but it is on my bucket list. I always hear how nice it is and how gorgeous the views are. If I go, I'd love to bring my family with me so they can experience it too.
My signature drink:
Hot cocoa! I can't pass up a good cup of liquid chocolate.
Favorite artist:
I'm largely into music and have many favorites: Dermot Kennedy, Omar Apollo, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Rihanna, Ari Lennox, RYX, Alina Baraz...just to name a few.
Number one on my bucket list:
Traveling to Italy and Greece. They seem like wonderful places and I want to experience the culture and the food.
