Author Interview - Melanie Benjamin
Author I draw inspiration from: Edna Ferber – an odd choice, I know. But she was a successful author who wrote about strong women, and was a real pro.
Favorite place to read a book: On the beach!
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Count Rostov from A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: When a dear friend, out of the blue, said she always thought that I should be one.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: All of the above except for audiobook; I’m a visual learner.
The last book I read: A galley of a new book coming out in the fall, THE SISTERS OF SUMMIT AVENUE by Lynn Cullen
Pen & paper or computer: Computer
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Elizabeth Bennet
If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a: Film critic
Favorite decade in fashion history: Late 1940s, beginning with Christian Dior’s “New Look,” until the mid-1960s (ending with Mary Quant).
Place I’d most like to travel: The Galapagos Islands
My signature drink: Gin and tonic, the tonic water has to be high quality, with a lemon, not a lime.
Favorite artist: Marc Chagall
Number one on my bucket list: See the Northern Lights while staying in the Ice Hotel in Norway
