The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: When I read “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” by Zora Neale Hurston. It changed my life when I read Teacake’s words of love to Janie: “ "You got de keys to de kingdom." I knew then that words make emotions visible. I set out to do that with every book I write.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: OOH this is hard! To escape ebook hands down. I read 3-4 books a week. On vacation I want to go to the bookstore and buy 2-3 hardbacks to read at the beach. On my drive to work, audiobooks make the drive worth it!

The last book I read: “Brutal Vows” by J.T. Gessinger

Pen & paper or computer: The magic takes place on a 12.9 inch Apple iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Ifemelu From Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “Americanah.” She embodied the African Diaspora through her personality, life experiences and choices, and her love for Black men on both continents (Africa and America). She’s fascinating!

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: Well, I’m also a school principal and I love it!

Favorite decade in fashion history: Definitely the seventies: Halston, Halston, Halston!

My signature drink: A good Riesling

Favorite artist: Elizabeth Catlett

Number one on my bucket list: I don’t have a bucket list.I make it my business to do what makes me feel free on a daily basis.

Anything else you'd like to add: That I write Happy Black Romances because I believe it’s time for Black women to be highlighted as women who are wanted and wed. Black love is joyful and it is not rare…our stories just need to be shared.
