Author of Night's Edge

NIGHT'S EDGE is a grounded mother/daughter vampire tale about the complicated love within codependent families.

Having a mom like Izzy meant Mia had to grow up fast. No extracurricular activities, no inviting friends over, and definitely no dating. The most important rule: tell no one of Izzy’s hunger – the one only blood can satisfy.

But Mia is in her twenties now and longs for a life of her own. One where she doesn’t have to worry about anyone discovering their terrible secret, or breathing down her neck. When Mia meets rebellious musician Jade she dares to hope she’s found a way to leave her home – and her mom – behind.

It just might be Mia’s only chance of getting out alive.

Author I draw inspiration from: I grew up devouring the books of Lois Lowry, and later on discovered the dark, gorgeous worlds of Margaret Atwood and Anne Rice. Carmen Maria Machado and Louise Erdrich are also huge inspirations for me. I could feast on their words for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the rest of my life.

Favorite place to read a book: The hammock in my backyard under the guava tree - especially when it's fruiting and smells like a tropical island!

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Maeve from Maeve Fly by CJ Leede. Yes, I'd be utterly terrified. But if I lived to tell the tale and she decided I was cool, I might leave said elevator with a delightful new friend.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: I learned to read when I was about four years old and desperately wanted to tell my own stories, but I couldn't type and had trouble holding a pencil. I would narrate stories aloud to my mom, who would type them out for me on our ancient 1990s word processor. She'd print them on long reams of paper, fold them and staple them into book shapes, and have me illustrate them. The process has changed a bit over the years, but not my love for it.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Paperback. I love a physical copy but also love to travel, so a nice lightweight paperback checks both those boxes!

The last book I read: Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica

Pen & paper or computer: Computer

Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Kari from WHITE HORSE by Erika T. Wurth is my new favorite person. She's full of angst and shadows and nicotine and whiskey and she's seen a LOT of ghosts. I think we'd have some really insane, incredible conversations.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: An anthropologist. I love learning about traditions and human history and culture and all the ways we're more connected than we think.

Favorite decade in fashion history: 1970s Stevie Nicks vibes forever

Place I’d most like to travel: I'm dying to get to Greece and take a trip around all the smaller islands pretending I'm a water nymph.

My signature drink: A rum Negroni (don't knock it till ya try it) made with pink Cara Cara oranges. It matches my hair.

Favorite artist: Yayoi Kusama

Number one on my bucket list: Sing the Tom Petty part on "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" with Stevie Nicks while she's still alive (a girl can dream, right?)

Anything else you'd like to add: Only that I'm deeply excited for readers to discover Night's Edge this summer! Can't wait to share these characters with you, who have held my whole heart for the past three years.
