Author of Brighde Reborn

In her quiet Jersey Shore town, Bridget MacNamara just wants to survive high school senior year and get a date with the strikingly attractive new kid, Trip, but fate and her lineage have other ideas. Things get weird when the most popular guy in school, Cailean "Cay" McKay, won't leave her alone. Turns out they're distant cousins and what's more—they're the descendants of twin Scottish goddesses, Brighde and Beira. The sisters originally shared an amulet that controlled the weather, and its sudden disappearance has sparked betrayal and vengeance, dividing the once-close family into two rival factions for the last few centuries. Bridget doesn’t care about Scottish mythology, but she finds herself thrown in a modern version of it when she learns she’s directly descended from Brighde, and Trip can be traced straight to Beira. After a century of family warfare, Trip and Bridget are now a star-crossed couple, forced to fight both their families and each other in a race to find the missing amulet.

Favorite place to read a book:

Anywhere!

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:

Such a hard question! Leslie: Any of the characters from Kate Canterbary In A Jam - The scenarios would range from appropriate to inappropriate depending on who was there! And jam would be involved. Janice: Genevieve Lenard series by Estelle Ryan - I'd love to hear more about Gen's childhood and how it shaped her current job as an insurance agent.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:

Leslie: When I was about 5 years old Janice: 2012, when Leslie asked me to join her in writing novels

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:

Both: No audio books for either of us! We zone out and fall asleep, but the paperback, ebooks, and hardcovers are great! With PB and HC, you get to feel the weight of the book in your hand and smell the scent of the pages. With ebooks, we love how we can hold over 900 books in one device and have a selection of books at our fingertips.

The last book I read:

Leslie: Beer and Loathing by Ellie Alexander - I love this series - from the cozy mystery to the recipes and setting - I want to live this life! Janice: Man on the Train by Clara Benson - I like 1920s murder mysteries - I got that from my Mom, who was a devout Agatha Christie fan.

Pen & paper or computer:

Computer - it's easier for us to write, edit, and share files with the other when we update it in real time.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:

Janice: Ginny from a Lesson in Patience by Jennifer Connors - We both have a strange sense of humor and I think we'd spend our time laughing. Leslie: Florence from The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston - Florence and I have so much in common, we could rely on each other in those hard times and laugh during the good.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:

Leslie - Probably a professional singer; it's my other strong creative skill Janice - A professional ballerina

Favorite decade in fashion history:

Leslie - '00s - childhood memories unlocked Janice - present - no restrictions on what a woman can wear (considering I had to wear dresses all the time without a choice)

Place I’d most like to travel: Leslie: Australia, New Zealand, Greece - I was going to go in 2020, but we all know how that worked out Janice: London - It fascinates me from a historical perspective

My signature drink:

Janice: Hot Tea Leslie: Water

Favorite artist:

We don't have one? We are both partial to Degas because of the ballerinas.

Number one on my bucket list:

Retirement

About Leslie and Janice Sommers:

Leslie holds a B.A. in English with a concentration in Creative Fiction Writing from Montclair State University. Like Bridget, Leslie was born and raised in New Jersey and inherited her love of reading from her mother. Janice holds a B.S. in Education from Seton Hall University. Her passion for books was passed on to the next generation of her family. Both Leslie and Janice currently live in New Jersey with their cat, in a busy little town, and they couldn’t think of a more perfect setting for their heroine. Brighde Reborn is their first young adult novel.
