Author Interview - Lee Goldberg

Author of Bone Canyon and Dream Town

About Dream Town

A gated dream town for the megarich becomes a murderous nightmare in a riveting Eve Ronin thriller by #1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Goldberg.

Hidden Hills is a private celebrity enclave of white picket fences and horse trails that seems to exist in a dreamworld. But when reality superstar Kitty Winslow is killed within their gates and corpses are found in the vast state park outside them, LASD detective Eve Ronin realizes there is a deadly, razor-thin line between what’s real and what’s imagined.

Eve discovers that Kitty’s surreal on- and off-camera life, a blur of fact and fantasy, shockingly mirrors her own as she struggles to investigate the killings, wade into a music industry war, and battle a vicious Chilean gang―all while her life is being turned into a fictional cop show directed by her estranged father.

Eve’s grip on reality and the case is strained to the breaking point as the slayings continue, the media frenzy reaches a fever pitch, and the only inescapable truth she can see is death…and it’s coming for her.

About Bone Canyon

“A catastrophic wildfire scorches the Santa Monica Mountains, exposing the charred remains of a woman who disappeared years ago. The investigation is assigned to Eve Ronin, the youngest homicide detective in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a position that forces her to prove herself again and again. This time, though, she has much more to prove.”

Author I draw inspiration from:

Larry McMurtry

Favorite place to read a book:

On the beach in Hawaii

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:

Gus MacRae - Lonesome Dove, Larry McMurtry

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:

I think I always knew I wanted to be an author...but the moment when I knew that I could actually **do it** was when I read FLETCH, by Gregory MacDonald. It was a clever crime novel that was almost entirely driven by dialogue...it was how he revealed character and plot. It was an epiphany. I didn't have the skill then, of course, to pull it off... but somehow I knew it was within my reach.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:

Hardcover

The last book I read:

Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. Danforth

Pen & paper or computer:

Computer

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:

James Bond, because we are so much alike. And if you don't already know who wrote Bond, you should join our culture, it's fun.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:

director

Favorite decade in fashion history:

1940s

Place I’d most like to travel:

Caribbean Islands...only because I love tropical locales and I haven't been there yet. I'd also like to visit more of Asia (Japan, Singapore, Vietnam...). Of course, that's assuming it's ever safe to travel again :-)

My signature drink:

Diet Coke

Favorite artist:

In what field? Actually, the answer doesn't matter. I don't have a single favorite artist in any field.

Number one on my bucket list:

I don't have a bucket list. I am too optimistic about life to think I need one.

Anything else you'd like to add:

I'm red/green colorblind, so if you see me wearing a pink shirt, odds are I thought it was white or blue when I bought it, so don't embarrass me by pointing it out. My wife will do that later.
