One cancelled wedding
When the day finally comes for Annie to marry Alexander, the last thing she expects is to be left standing at the altar. She was so sure he was Mr Right. Now, she has no idea how she could have got it so wrong.
One unexpected encounter
After a chance meeting with Patrick, an old friend who reminds her of who she used to be, Annie takes a vow of her own: she’ll say yes to every opportunity that comes her way from now on.
One spare ticket for the honeymoon
Could a spontaneous trip with Patrick be the way to mend Annie’s heart? She’s about to find out as she embarks on her honeymoon – with a man who’s not her husband…
Author I draw inspiration from: There’s so many authors I love! I’d really invested by the creative development of writers – so for example, I’ve read everything by Taylor Jenkins Reid because it’s so interesting to me how she started out writing straight romance that bloomed into more complex, ambitious stories with Evelyn Hugo and then Daisy Jones. I admire Mhairi McFarlane for the same reason: you can see the scope of her ambition growing and growing and it is a sight to behold! What a treat for us readers.
Favorite place to read a book: I try to read most nights, and often do it in bed. I do find it very chic, though, so sit in a proper reading chair by a lamp with a nice cup of tea. I do that less often, though.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Evelyn Hugo for sure! (The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo)
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: I’ve just always known it. Stories have been my happy place since I was about 8, but even as soon as I could write I was creating other worlds. It’s such a hard, completive and “Lady luck” kind of an industry though. You definitely have to strap in for the ride!
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: A bit of everything! Hardbacks feel special, paperbacks are easier to lift up, my Kindle fits in my handbag and occasional an ebook is a great companion on a walk or when I’m cooking.
The last book I read: I’m currently reading Belgravia by Julian Fellowes – the guy who did Downtown! I read his other two novels, Snobs and Past Imperfect, as a teenager, and at the bookstore the other day this one was out on the middle table and I thought oh! I must complete the set!
Pen & paper or computer: Computer. I used to do all my first drafts with pen and paper at university, but for time’s sake now typing is the only way.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: All of my own female protagonists are people I’d be pals with. They all contain parts of me, but also parts of the people I love, too.
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: Beautician to the stars! I’d love to be the one doing Halle berry’s eyebrows, or Lady GaGa’s fake tan.
Favorite decade in fashion history: I think post world war 1, into the 1920’s – that bit where women were suddenly emancipated a bit more and able to experiment with their style as a means of expression. What excitement!
Place I’d most like to travel: Right now I’d just love a spa break. Three weeks wherever Victoria Beckham goes in the alps should do it!
My signature drink: Champagne. My friend switched to drinking only champagne and there’s really something in it. I like a good red wine occasionally but there’s nothing lovelier than a glass of proper French bubbles.
Favorite artist: It feels so basic to say Frieda Kahlo! But I saw an exhibit of hers when I was about 20, at the Tate in London, and I was just so taken in by her way of seeing the world.
Number one on my bucket list: Build a house. That would be my dream! To build a house – not a big one – but a house that has a proper laundry room with an ironing board always set up, and a cloakroom big enough for several coats. Now, if you’ll excuse me I’ve got lottery numbers to go and play…
