Author Interview - Kristen Ashley

Author of Fighting the Pull

Hale Wheeler inherited billions from his father. He’s decided to take those resources and change the world for the better. He’s married to his mission, so he doesn’t have time for love.

There’s more lurking behind this decision. He hasn’t faced the tragic loss of his father, or the bitterness of his parents’ divorce. He doesn’t intend to follow in his father’s footsteps, breaking a woman’s heart in a way it will never mend. So he vows he’ll never marry.

But Hale is intrigued when he meets Elsa Cohen, the ambitious celebrity news journalist who has been reporting on his famous family. He warns her off, but she makes him a deal. She’ll pull back in exchange for an exclusive interview.

Elsa Cohen is married to her career, but she wants love, marriage, children. She also wants the impossibly handsome, fiercely loyal, tenderhearted Hale Wheeler.

They go head-to-head, both denying why there are fireworks every time they meet. But once they understand their undeniable attraction, Elsa can’t help but fall for the dynamic do-gooder.

As for Hale, he knows he needs to fight the pull of the beautiful, bold, loving Elsa Cohen, because breaking her would crush him.

Favorite place to read a book:

In my reading chair in my bedroom, unless I can be decadent and camp out in a nice hotel room with room service, laze in a bed I don't have to make and call up food and wine when I need it. In other words, on vacation I'm gonna have my nose stuck in a book.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:

Darynda Jones's Charley Davidson. And I imagine I'd pitch myself as another sidekick. I think I'd kick butt as Charley's sidekick! And maybe she'd introduce me to a hot biker...or demon.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:

I was maybe 12 or 13, voraciously reading my Mom's Harlequin Presents, and thinking it would be cool if I could tell romance stories for a living.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:

I don't care. A book is a book. I don't do audio very much because I don't have the time and have to concentrate, so might as well kick back with a physical book!

The last book I read:

Magical Midlife Meeting by KF Breene. Since it's book five in the Leveling Up series, and I'm halfway through book six, you can deduce I'm loving it! (And I wouldn't mind being caught in an elevator with Jessie, or Austin, though Jessie might not like what I'd have to say to Austin and I don't want to goad her inner gargoyle!)

Pen & paper or computer:

Computer. Just me and it at my desk in my office or up in my cabin. No distractions. No music. And nothing leaking in for days and days and days and days...until it's done.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:

Ally Nightingale, the Rock Chick books, by me :-) And I think I'd be best friends with her because I already am. She's based on my bestest bestie of all time, Kelly (who is also my editor). So if we can keep the magic going after she edits my babies, we're stuck together for life!

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:

A waitress in a biker bar, this would be a fantasy biker bar where they're all hot and chivalrous. But yeah, I think I could have some fun herding those cats!

Favorite decade in fashion history:

Wow. Good question. I'd say...now. Fashion is very exciting now and all over the place. Not surprising, I love a bit of chaos.

Place I’d most like to travel:

Crete...because I've been there and it's the most beautiful place I've ever been.

My signature drink:

French 75.

Favorite artist:

Springsteen

Number one on my bucket list:

I'm dying to go on a safari in Africa. And I'm gonna do it...one day!
