Author Interview - Kimberly Belle
Author of My Darling Husband and The Paris Widow
About The Paris Widow:
A dream vacation turns deadly when secrets from the past catch up to a married couple in Paris in this new edge-of-your-seat thriller from USA Today bestselling author, Kimberly Belle.
When Stella met Adam, she thought she had finally found a nice, normal guy—a welcome change from her previous boyfriend and her precarious jetsetter lifestyle with him. But her secure world comes crashing down when Adam goes missing after an explosion in the city square. Unable to reach him, she panics.
As the French police investigate, it’s revealed that Adam was on their radar as a dealer of rare and stolen antiquities with a long roster of criminal clients. Reeling from this news, Stella is determined not to leave Paris until she has the full story. Was Adam a random victim or the target of the explosion? And why is someone following her through the streets of Paris?
An irresistible, fast-paced read set in some of Europe’s most inviting locales, The Paris Widow explores how sinister secrets of the past stay with us—no matter how far we travel.
About My Darling Husband:
Jade Lasky is returning home with her two small children when they’re confronted by a masked and armed man in her garage who forces his way into her home and demands money—lots of it. While her husband Cam scrambles to scrape the ransom together, Jade begins to wonder if they’re as financially stable as their lifestyle suggests, and if this masked stranger is indeed a stranger. Unbeknownst to both her and Cam, the man has been watching them, and he’s about to turn their family secrets into a public scandal.
Author I draw inspiration from:
So many, but Karin Slaughter is a top favorite, because of both her writing and her personality. Her social media is so much fun!
Favorite place to read a book:
A shady spot on the beach
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:
Claire from Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I'm sure she's got lots of stories!
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:
I’m not one of those writers who penned her first novel in crayon. I’ve always loved getting lost in a good book, but for the longest time it never occurred to me to actually write one. My first career was in nonprofit fundraising, but when I lost my job in the 2008 crash, I saw it as a sign from the universe. That's when I began writing seriously.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:
All of them? Hardbacks look best on the shelf, paperbacks are for vacation reading, ebooks in bed, and audiobooks when running errands.
The last book I read:
Somebody’s Home by Kaira Rouda
Pen & paper or computer:
Computer with colored felt-tip pens and a pretty notebook on the side
Book character I think I’d be best friends with:
Jane from the Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins. She's so smart and funny!
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:
Bookstore owner, or maybe a professional reviewer. It's all about the books!
Favorite decade in fashion history:
The 70s. I could so rock that fashion!
Place I’d most like to travel:
So many! My bucketlist overfloweth. Top of the list is Capri, Mauritius, and Bora Bora, planning a trip to at least one of these in 2022.
My signature drink:
Sauvignon Blanc
Favorite artist:
John Legend - I could listen to him all day (and often do) :)
Number one on my bucket list:
More travel - I'd love to see some fabulous city during a Formula One race. The Netflix series has made me a fan!
Anything else you'd like to add:
I wrote My Darling Husband during lockdown—my pandemic book that has nothing to do with the pandemic—and it’s the fastest I’ve ever written a story, in four short months. Partly because there was little else to do at the time, but mostly because it provided the perfect distraction from all the scary developments happening outside my family’s bubble. All the helplessness I felt, all the fear and confusion…it was almost a relief to translate these feelings to the page. Jade’s situation was very different from mine, but she was working through a lot of the same emotions, and writing her story helped me process mine.
