Author Interview - Jeneva Rose

Author of One of Us is Dead

One of us is Dead centers around an upscale and exclusive salon in Buckhead and the wealthy clients that frequent it. When one wife is replaced with a younger woman, power shifts between the group and each interaction becomes more explosive. Dark secrets are revealed as the women vie to remain relevant. Caught in the middle of it all is salon owner, Jenny, who spends her days taking care of her clients and trying to keep the peace between them. When one of them ends up dead, it’s only Jenny and her collection of town gossip that can help the police solve the murder.

Author I draw inspiration from: There are so many authors that have inspired me, so I couldn't possibly name them all. However, some that come immediately to the front of my mind are Chevy Stevens, Peter Swanson, Caroline Kepnes, Karin Slaughter, and Liane Moriarty.

Favorite place to read a book: My favorite place to read a book is in a park on a spring or fall day. Since I live in Chicago where it's winter nearly half the year, my second favorite place to read is laying on my couch with my English bulldog snoring at my feet.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: The book character I'd like to be stuck in an elevator with is Annie Wilkes from Misery, because she'd force me to be productive while I was trapped in there with her. Heck, I'd probably walk out of that elevator with a finished novel..

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be an author. I'd write short stories and poems in my free time and leave them on the table for my mom to read when she got home from working second-shift. I'd wake up to find little notes of encouragement written in the margins telling me how great it was (even when it wasn't) and pushing me to keep going. My mom knew I would be an author one day (because Moms always know). She even had me practice my signature (Jeneva Rose, my first and middle name) in anticipation for all the books I'd sign one day.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: If I'm traveling on vacation, ebook, since I can bring so many with me without exceeding baggage weight limits. Otherwise, I prefer paperback. There's nothing better than having a physical book in my hands and getting a whiff of that pulpy smell as I turn the page.

The last book I read: The Road by Cormac McCarthy

Pen & paper or computer: Definitely a computer. I'm left-handed so my handwriting tends to be rather sloppy. However, I do enjoy taking quick handwritten notes though when I'm brainstorming.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Tyrion Lannister from A Game of Thrones. He's witty, brilliant, funny, and enjoys a glass or five of wine. I think we'd get along very well.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: Social Media Manager, which is what I was doing prior to becoming a full-time author in 2021. I worked as a senior global social manager for a Fortune 500 company.

Favorite decade in fashion history: I'd probably say the 50s for the elegance like the styles of Jackie Kennedy and Grace Kelly, but the 80s for the comfort. The 80s were all about leggings, high-waisted pants, and ripped jeans. Since I spend a lot of my time sitting at a desk, my style is actually all about being comfortable.

Place I’d most like to travel: My dream vacation is Thailand, and I would love to visit an elephant sanctuary there. I'd also love to stay in an overwater bungalow in the Maldives.

My signature drink: My signature drink is either an iced coffee, a glass of red wine, or a vodka soda with a lime.

Favorite artist: Musically, I'd have to say Passenger. If we're talking in terms of art, I'd go with Van Gogh.

Number one on my bucket list: Number one on my bucket list is to swim with whale sharks.

Anything else you'd like to add: Thank you so much for having me! I love connecting with readers, so if you're reading this, please feel free to get in touch with me via any of my social media accounts.
