Author I draw inspiration from: Melissa Broder. Her nonfiction is so honest—she’s brutal with herself--and she managed to turn that same perceptive quality on her fictional characters, who are magnetically distasteful.

Favorite place to read a book: Well, my FAVORITE place to read is outside of this little town in Sicily called Donnalucata. The beach there is deserted and I like to pull my chair right up to the water’s edge where the bath-like Adriatic laps at my toes, which I dig into the soft sand for clusters of delicious wedge clams while absorbing a literary page-turner. But the best part about reading is that you can escape into a book from anywhere.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Hermione Granger. We wouldn’t be stuck in the elevator for long!

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: It started in second grade when I wrote an elaborate short story about a prisoner of war who befriends a mouse. Then for a long time, creative writing was only for ‘extra credit’ at school, and it took over a decade for me to remember this thing that I loved doing could be more than just a hobby. I came home to my Soho roommate at 23 and announcing, “I’m going to be a writer!”
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: eBook for the comfort of never being without caught somewhere without reading material (my personal nightmare).
The last book I read: Rich and Pretty, Rumaan Alam’s debut novel.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: The owner of a beach-town diner which specializes in simple delicious food and great coffee 24/7.
Favorite decade in fashion history: Now. I can’t imagine wearing anything but jeans and Birkenstocks.
Place I’d most like to travel: Korea – For the food!
My signature drink: Jameson and soda
Favorite artist: Beyoncé

Author Bio: Elizabeth Topp penned her first short story in the second grade and has been writing ever since. A graduate of The Dalton School, Harvard College and Columbia’s School of the Arts, Liz co-authored her first book, Vaginas: An Owner’s Manual with her gynecologist mother while she worked as a Private Assistant, a job she still holds. Liz lives in the same Manhattan apartment where she grew up with her partner, Matthew, daughter Anna, and their cat, Stripes. Perfectly Impossible is her debut novel.
