Author Interview - Elizabeth Sumner Wafler
Author of A CLEFT IN THE WORLD
Agoraphobic French professor Georgie Bricker hasn't left the environs of the small women’s college where she teaches in years—but when financial scandal brings both the possibility of the school’s closure and her first love to her front door, the life she's meticulously tended is abruptly upended.
Author I draw inspiration from: The late, oh-so-great Pat Conroy. His prose is still inimitable. And his stories riveting, poignant and enduring.
Favorite place to read a book: Tucked into bed at night or on the beach at Kiawah Island.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Emmeline from Erica Bauermeister's THE SCENT KEEPER.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: When I "retired" (from teaching) and asked myself what's next? My dream job?
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Paperback, so I can take it to the bath or to bed.
The last book I read: Jacquelyn Mitchard's THE GOOD SON
Pen & paper or computer: Computer. Can't imagine how authors wrote and revised 90K words on a legal tablet!
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Maude Chambliss in Anne Rivers Siddons's COLONY
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: A painter.
Favorite decade in fashion history: The mod and hippie chic decade of the sixties.
Place I’d most like to travel: Italy is next on my bucket list.
My signature drink: An Oregon Pinot Gris or a Vodka Martini (Tito's) "up" with a twist.
Favorite artist: Renoir.
Number one on my bucket list: Spend a month with my daughter where she lives in Oregon.
Anything else you'd like to add: My next book is a Christmas Cozy Romance that takes place in my hometown of Greenville South Carolina and our Grand Bohemian Lodge. (October '24 She Writes Press.) The hotel is throwing me a fab launch party during next year's Christmas season.
