Author I draw inspiration from:
I know it is going to sound contrived, but honestly I get so much inspiration from the Brontë sisters, particularly Charlotte. I love the passion and drive in her books, and thanks to her letters we know so much about her as an author, her insecurities and uncertainties, resilience and determination. I love Emily’s freedom, her disregard for convention, the noise and music in her writing, and I love Anne’s rebellious nature, her strong ideas and courage to write about what mattered to her, not what was considered appropriate.

Favorite place to read a book:
I really love reading in bed, or the bath. Reading for me is the ultimate relaxation, so comfort, many cups of tea and chocolate are all essential.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:
Oh dear, I’m not really a fan of elevators, I’m always worried I’d get stuck in one! So I will choose Mark Darcy from Bridget Jones Diary. He seems practical, even headed and also quite easy on the eye.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:
I was twenty-nine and a half. I’d always written up to that point, but not seriously, and then I saw a short story competition in a magazine for young writers, the cut-off point was thirty! I thought, oh no, I’m getting old. Better start now if I’m serious about making that dream come true.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:
I collect old books, specifically Bronte related books, so for me it’s a hard back, preferably a first edition, even better if it’s got an inscription and some kind of evidence of its previous owners. I love the stories within stories that we find in second hand books.
The last book I read: The Art of Theft by Sherry Thomas from the Lady Sherlock series, and I loved it.

Pen & paper or computer: Pen and Paper, quill if I could get away with it. I’m not a fan of modernity.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Oh, Jane Eyre and Anne of Green Gables. When I was around twelve both of them were my best friends, in my head anyway.

If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a: Fine art restorer working on the great masters in the National Gallery (Yes I have thought about this a lot)
Favorite decade in fashion history: the 1950s, when they made clothes for ladies of curve.
Place I’d most like to travel: I really want to go to Monterey and see sea otters.
My signature drink: Gin and Tonic
Favorite artist: Van Gogh - there is nothing more moving and glorious than getting to stand in front of Starry Night.
Number one on my bucket list: Monterey!
