Author I draw inspiration from: Wally Lamb. I aspire to the way he brings mental health and family history into his writing. It’s both personal and universal at the same time. I met him during the Outloud Series at my local library. He signed my copy “I know this much is true” in Italian with the words, “write what you know.”

Favorite place to read a book: In a horizontal position, In a bed or on a couch. Laying down is the best.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Bunny McGarry from The Dublin Trilogy by Caimh McDonnell. I want to laugh and laugh and laugh.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: When I read a winning poem I wrote as a first grader to the entire school (including high school) of Osceola, Missouri. That applause was a big deal for this Gemini.

The last book I read: Macbeth by Jo Nesbo

Pen & paper or computer: Both. I wrote my first novel on yellow legal pads to avoid eye strain from the computer after working all day on it. I tried to use medical transcription software to avoid typing it. That made for a hilarious version of Squared Away. The struggle was very real.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Sookie Stackhouse from Charlaine Harris. She’s a supernatural soldier after all.

If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a: Investigative journalist. My heart beats for long reads with tons of details and lots of background.

Favorite decade in fashion history: Loving the 90’s right now with the androgyny of blazers with big shoulder pads. Inclusivity for all body types is always fashionable so glad we’re making progress.

Place I’d most like to travel: New Zealand. My geography professor told me this is actual paradise realized with all the climates represented.

My signature drink: Moscow mule mixed at home with Fever Tree light Ginger Beer. To treat a persistent cough, a shot of Limoncello made in Sicily.

Favorite artist: My favorite living artist is my baby sister, Chelsea Dill. She’s a teacher and a sergeant in the Army and still finds time to slay that canvas as a finger painter.

Number one on my bucket list: Live part of my life in Sicily where I can fill up my lungs with the sea and the volcano, Mount Etna. My Missouri upbringing makes me long for wild places in nature.

Anything else you'd like to add: I dedicated my book to those in harm’s way. Many of those people are women. Do more than remember their sacrifice, find a way to give back.
