A Look Back on Welcoming Miles to the World
How does a book blogger announce a pregnancy? With a mock cover reveal, of course!
My husband set a few ground rules: no party, no audience, nothing that explodes. It was a deal. Public displays were never our thing, we always liked having more private, intimate moments. So, since the pregnancy announcement reflected my interest in books , I decided the gender reveal should reflect my husband’s interest in collecting vinyl records.
We had names picked out before conception. Both of us wanted to avoid bump nicknames, especially those associated with food. Just not our thing. (Though my mom tried to make Bean a thing for awhile - ha!) Plus we thought calling him by name early on would help us bond with him and make the pregnancy feel more real. So here is our thought process and the meaning behind our son’s name.
Bun in the Oven Baby Shower
My nearest and dearest friends in Chicago hosted a “Bun in the Oven” Baby Shower for us at Bettie’s Chicago , a new retro diner-themed event space featuring weekly baking classes, date night events, and private parties.
A Book-Themed Baby Shower
Later in the year, our longtime family friends threw a second shower for us in our hometown of Jefferson City, MO for old friends and family. They know how much I love books and reading, so they quickly homed in on a book-themed shower starting with these darling invitations designed by my sister-in-law, Joelle Chow.
We split our babymoon into two parts: we started with a focus on rest and relaxation and ended with more active activities.
Christina and I met back in 2016 when she was a stylist for the now defunct Trunk Club. She left the company not long after we met to pursue her photography career, my husband and I were bummed to lose her as a stylist but we’ve had so much fun watching her career take off as a photographer.
“Miles is a little Hasty” - Eric
Our time in the NICU was tough. We weren’t prepared to leave our baby behind when I was discharged from the hospital. I cried every night when we left and every morning when I saw him again and probably multiple times throughout the day. I didn’t blog about it or post much about it on Instagram, I was just trying to survive it.
But here’s a small glimpse…
After 18 days in the NICU, Miles is coming home. 🤍 No more wires, no more monitors beeping, no more teary goodbyes at the end of each day.
Kathleen Virginia Photography first started photographing our family seven years ago (before Eric and I even moved to Chicago!) So much has changed since then… but through it all Kathleen’s captured some of our major life events including my 30th birthday, our 10th wedding anniversary, and now the arrival of our son.
