Apr 9 25 Authors and The Places They'd Most Like to Travel
25 Authors and The Places They'd Most Like to Travel For a year we’ve been mostly grounded. But as vaccines roll out, countries are opening their borders and travel is on the horizon again. I, for one, am anxious to get back out and explore the world. Here are 25 of your favorite authors and the places they’d most like to travel. Yesterday’s post has me dreaming about returning to Paris. Where would you go if you could travel anywhere in the world?
I’d love to rent a houseboat in Srinagar, Kashmir, for a month if that beautiful place ever returns to peace. My family visited Kashmir when I was a very little girl, and I have lots of sense memories of it. Then I fell in love with the place through Rumer Godden’s memoir A Time to Dance, No Time to Weep. She spent WWII in Kashmir, and at that time it was a refuge from fighting. I’d dearly love to go back, but I fear it will be in ruins before the war there now ever ends.
Venice - always. But aside from that, to explore more of Denmark in a camper van. I adore Copenhagen as a city and I'd love to go further afield.
I'd really like to go to Prince Edward Island, where Anne of Green Gables is set. It always looks so beautiful in the TV adaptations. I'd find the Lake of Shining Waters, the Haunted Wood and Lovers' Lane.
Singapore — if I could hang with the family from "Crazy Rich Asians."
I’d like to travel to Madagascar. 75% of the exotic animals on that island, like the different types of lemurs, are unique to that island, and some are endangered, so I hope I get there in time to see them.
French Polynesia. If I could get there in a super fast rocket jet and avoid that plane ride especially.
Nothing makes me happier than traveling. There are many cities/places I'd like to see for the first time, but even more that I'd like to return to again and again. Some favorites: Rome, Berlin, Madrid, London, Vienna, and Copenhagen to name a few.
Ah, Ireland... I have an ancestor who was dean at St. Patrick's Cathedral. The first time I went there, it felt inhabited by his young daughter, my greatxxxgrandmother, running up and down the aisles. I wonder if she ever snuck up the stairs to the pulpit? They wouldn't let me. I could hardly leave. I will return.
Hawaii. It’s always been Hawaii ever since I was a child, but I don’t quite know why. It always looks so windy in the pictures but I just like the idea of it.
Scotland is at the top of my list as of now! I’d love to go to Jamaica someday, too. Or Bora Bora!
Iran. They have a fantastic culture and food. Very educated people., too. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to go in my lifetime because of the pandemic and politics.
My favorite place to visit is Jerusalem. But for places I have never visited, I would love to go on a trip to the Silk Road countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Bukhara – to see some of the history there and experience a very different way of life.
I really want to go to Norway. I have a friend there and, back when I lived in Europe, it was the most beautiful country I visited. I'd like to take my wife and son there, and we could make snow angels and get cheap healthcare.
I am fascinated by resurrection, reinvention and reincarnation - Vietnam is high on the list, and I wish to show my sons Egypt soon, taking the night train from Cairo to Luxor and travelling onwards by a Feluka, doing our own Nile Cruise.
Japan. There's literally no good reason for me not to have visited before now but it's been the top of my list for years.
There are many places I'd like to travel, but right now I would love to just sit on the beach and read for a week (or two).
I've been fortunate to travel to many countries across the world. But I think the places I'd love to visit next are Jordan, Egypt, and Bolivia. Easter Island and the Galapagos Islands are very high on my bucket list too.
A road trip to the Four Corners in the US is top of my list. Zion National Park looks beyond belief in its beauty. I also once travelled through New Mexico and was only supposed to stay two days, but the food was so incredible, I stayed for ten. I long to return and stuff myself with red chilli for as long as my gut allows.
I am hankering to go to Singapore as my brother is there and we can't travel and he says it's amazing.
Maldives! Need an over the water bungalow ASAP. That is number one on my bucket list. I saw a photo of a swing set in the teal ocean. I can't wait to try it out with hubby while sipping champagne.
I've enjoyed extensive travel throughout my life, but there's one place that's always been on the bucket list that I still haven't visited: Alaska. My dream is to spend a year of my life in a small but beautiful Alaskan cabin with a great view. I suspect I'd get a lot of writing done there.
There are so many places I want to go, including many cities and beautiful beaches like Thailand or Bali. But what I am most drawn to are dramatic natural landscapes and nature. I'd like to go on safari in a place like Kenya, and visit mountainous regions like the Himalayas. Also, the idea of going to Iceland really appeals.
Oh, so many! I'd love to see New Zealand, Africa, Morocco, the Amalfi coast in Italy, the Egyptian pyramids...
I've been grateful to see a good bit of Europe, including backpacking on about a dollar a day when my husband and I were both in graduate school--so no five-star resorts in the Alps!--and then later with my three kids (even the four-year-old pulling her own little suitcase:). Though I would always jump at the chance to go back to Europe, I guess I'd have to say visiting a place I'd never been before like Kenya or New Zealand or Thailand. My youngest child is adopted from China, and I'm wanting to go back when I can really relax and soak in the culture and surroundings, as opposed to just being so entranced by a sweet baby girl and focused on the lovely business of the adoption.
Caribbean Islands...only because I love tropical locales and I haven't been there yet. I'd also like to visit more of Asia (Japan, Singapore, Vietnam...). Of course, that's assuming it's ever safe to travel again :-)
