Color Chicago
Color Chicago: 20 Views to Color in by Hand by Hennie Haworth
Happy Independence Day!
I'm taking a (very short) break from reading today and instead I'm diving into this adult coloring book by Hennie Haworth. (Side note: do y'all follow Hennie on Instagram? She's fabulous!) So adult coloring books were quite the rage a few years back and there were a number of studies about the benefits of coloring, but just a few days ago Reader's Digest published another article about a study completed at Drexel that says there is "an inherent potential for evoking positive emotions through art-making—and doodling especially." So what better way to spend this 4th of July than evoking positive emotions?
And you know what else evokes positive emotions for me? The city of Chicago. So when a representative from Harper Collins Publishers asked if I wanted a free copy of Color Chicago: 20 Views to Color in by Hand by Hennie Haworth, I was quick to say yes! Maybe Chicago isn't doing it for you? Hennie has a few other cities available: Color Paris and Color London are at the top of my list. And the fashion historian in me is dying over these fashion cards, inspired by fashion styles from the Roaring Twenties to the modern day. I would have loved those as a kid!
Now let's get real: I don't have a lot of time to sit and color. But it was a fun book to bring along on my vacation to Florida - something different for me to do while sitting on the beach. I also think it'd make a unique gift for someone moving to a new city. The pages are perforated so you could give your completed drawings as a gift, too. Hennie is super talented so the images are gorgeous just in black and white. Add a little color and your personal touch and each page becomes a great gift for a Chicago-lover (or whatever city you choose!)
