Book Review - Next Year, for Sure by Zoey Leigh Peterson

This was a pleasant surprise! I saw a few of my Instagram friends posting about this one so I bought it without reading much about it. This novel is about an open relationship and all the complications (both emotional and logistical) that you'd imagine would accompany such an arrangement. Kathryn and Chris have been in a committed, monogamous relationship for 9 years (strangely enough, my husband and I are celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary on March 29th of this year...but length is the only way in which our relationship resembles that of Kathryn and Chris) and they are relatively content with one another.

Chris comes home one days and casually mentions that he has a little thing for this girl he saw at the laundromat. Kathryn encourages him to go on a date with this girl (her name is Emily) confident that her relationship with Chris can withstand a little something on the side and surely thinking he'll get this out of his system. Let me pause here to say that at first I was uncertain, often thinking to myself...What? Really? Who would do that? But Zoey Leigh Peterson writes a believable scenario and Chris has this personality that makes you believe he has good intentions, if perhaps a tad bit misguided.

Much as I was fascinated by watching Big Love on HBO, I was drawn into this story and found the logistics of the arrangement interesting. I could see how it would work for some couples...good for them, not for me. But this is what I love about books! I get to live a hundred different lives and meet thousands of interesting people! I wish I could run into Kathryn and Chris on the street - I have lots of questions for them!
