Book Review - The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney

I thought I'd take a break from the WWII novels with The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney. This book takes place in present day NYC and is about four siblings, Melody, Beatrice, Leo and Jack Plumb, who are about to inherit a large sum of money, which they refer to as The Nest. In addition, there are numerous subplots involving some of my favorite and more complex characters. The writing style was unique and the story was compelling. I found myself laughing aloud on a number of occasions.

Each sibling has their own reasons for wanting or needing at least their share of The Nest, if not a bit more. Melody has an cumbersome mortgage and is about to send her twin daughters to college. Beatrice is having trouble finishing her next novel. Jack secretly took out a loan against his beach house. Leo is just out of rehab and was helped financially by his mother to keep him out of trouble.

Although these four siblings tie the whole story together, it was some of the minor characters that really brought this book alive for me and earned it five stars. Read this one, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
